An innovation night with Norwegian business school professor Peder Inge Furseth

Registration available until Wednesday at 9:00am as usual.

Peder Inge Furseth is a Professor of Innovation at BI Norwegian Business School who collaborates with UC Berkeley’s Haas School of Business. He will give a presentation on the following topic:What is the state of innovation in Norway? How do we compare to our Nordic neighbors, and what can we learn from the Bay Area? Furseth will examine why Norway, despite having one of the world’s largest sovereign funds, lags behind its Nordic peers in innovation. Is the country too reliant on oil and gas? Has complacency set in? Is the government doing enough? This talk explores these questions and highlights potential solutions, inviting participants to share insights on what Norway and its neighbors can learn from the Bay Area’s innovation culture.

The last time the World Cup was hosted in America, in 1994, the legendary Norwegian Drillo team qualified—a huge achievement.

Now, in 2026, the World Cup returns to North America, and Norway is eager to repeat the success of 31 years ago—a success followed by years of losses and disappointments.

But this time, hopes are high. Norway has Haaland, Ødegaard, and the strongest team in decades.

The long road to the World Cup begins with the opening qualifier against Moldova, and we’ll be screening it at the club.

We’ll also be serving a traditional Norwegian breakfast featuring scrambled eggs, gravlax, brunost, strawberry jam, and the best bread in the world—delivered fresh from the Seamen’s Church.
